The Pressures on Men

Montgomery highlights the pressures on men to join up and the devastation wrought by war.  Her journals tell of the proud marching off to war of the 116th Battalion and the loss of some of those men.   Her passages reveal how deeply involved the whole community was in “rallying the troops.”
